“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence. The phrase gives three examples of the “unalienable rights” which the Declaration says has been given to all human beings by their Creator, and for which governments are created to protect. The Forefathers knew that we all want to be happy (it was part of their own pursuit). But happiness does not start with money, success, possessions or future endeavours. It truly begins with gratitude.
Every moment is a gift. Every person is a treasure. Always be grateful first and foremost and happiness will arise spontaneously!
As Christians we don’t need to fear happiness or its pursuit. Jesus came to give us a life that is more abundant. And He proved in his own walk and ministry that you can rejoice, even in the darkest of times.
Is Anyone Truly Happy? You could be. If you focus on being grateful for what you already have.
So enjoy this video from Soul Pancake. The science and the experiment proves the value of these invitations from scripture:
- “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
- “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
- “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” Psalm 136:1
