My husband and I have been at this thing for 5 years now (that’s as long as we’ve been married). “This thing” meaning, pursuing our dreams of singing our hearts out to the Father, through song and sound.
We wrote songs out of the overflow of our lives. Each song is carefully crafted, painfully and joyfully lived, and is a collection of stories showcasing the recurring theme of the fathers undeniable goodness in our lives.
“When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be without heart.” Lamar Boschman
There are times we would like to throw in the towel, let this dream take a back seat and cruise control through our everyday lives, but this passion is the kind of force that doesn’t know how to let go.
You ever felt that?
The kind of passion that you try to put away but it just keeps coming back to haunt you.
A God inspired passion is an everlasting passion that cannot be denied. It will continue to chase you, stir inside you, annoy you even, and remind you of what you’re called to beyond the mundane.
So, here we are.
5 years in, 1 album done, many mistakes made, so much wisdom and experience gained, and much more to learn.
But the fact is, we’re still dreaming and still daring to live our desires out loud. Dreaming outside of your head is no easy feet. Giving voice to those God-sized dreams can be down right scary, awkward, and at times messy, but faith without works is dead (James 2:17).
Onwards we work.
Dreaming without doing is mere intention without creation. The vulnerability of dreaming outside of yourself is… yes, terrifying… but it’s also relieving because it makes you accountable to pursue those dreams into concrete action. It takes the desires out of “maybe procrastination” land and anchors them into “yes we can” persistence and reality.
The dream no longer sitting in the backseat of your heart but is now fully driving your life into Godly purpose and passion.
So, how are we dreaming out loud? We are currently crowd funding for our next worship album via IndieGoGo, a tool for artists to raise support for their creative endeavors. We aren’t just sitting back and expecting people to pay the way for our dreams. We have invested our own time, resources and heart into every bit of creating we do. We never want to offer God a sacrifice that cost us nothing and that’s what every album means to us, it’s a beautiful sacrifice worthy of our time, resources and risk.
Because we can only take our dreams so far and then the beauty of community support steps in. Dreaming out loud is never a solo act because it truly does take a village to raise a child. Our “dream baby” needs communal raising and support in order for it to become a reality. It would be nice to have all the money already and just make an album with no questions asked, but there’s a sweet opportunity to humble our hearts, ask for help and stay posture in raw vulnerability and dare to continue to dream out loud.
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
After us, it’s you. Be not afraid to sing, to trust God, to ask for help and to see your dreams and passions be.
