What if you could spend this whole week NOT worrying? No stress. No anxiety. No doubts. 100% confident that everything you need will be provided for. That all your needs will be met. That you will lack no thing.
I tell you, do not worry about your life. – Jesus.
Yes, that’s in the Bible. Jesus speaking Himself in Luke 12:22. An it is not a suggestion, neither an invitation. It is a command. One made in love (and from love Himself).
Listen to his words in your heart. Because Jesus who is God, the Word of God, the great provider, Saviour and King, is telling us not to worry. To chill. Relax. Believe.
And seeing as He never lies, we should consider trusting what He says. Because we have been feasting too much on the stress-control-shame-fear-despair recipe. Yet, it is time to eat from the Tree of Life! To taste and see that the Lord is good. Always good.
So give up. And make a mental list of the 3 things that worry you the most (finding a mate, paying the bills, your relationships at work etc.) – Now picture yourself giving them to Jesus. Actually handing them over. He receives them as worship, He reciprocates with peace.
Now breath. And listen:
“In Christ we have the authority and the ability to overcome anything the world throws our way – not because of who we are, but rather because of who is in us.” Perry Noble in Overwhelmed: Winning the War against Worry (This book has been super helpful to us.)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” Jesus in Matt 11:28-30
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Jesus, I give you my worry. My life is in your hands and I trust you completely. I know I can rely on you, and I choose to do so today. You are my provider. You are my source. You are comfort. I rest in your love. In your name I pray, Amen.
Oceans is a modern Classic. Tune your heart and listen to the Zion Acoustic Sessions (Live) version. I love the original writers, singing the original song, in a sweet acoustic setting. It sounds and feels glorious. Enjoy:
