I have heard this song a thousand times in the last few months. Churches all over the world are singing it. And now, according to an interview by Cosmopolitan Magazine, Justin Bieber has “No Longer Slaves” as one of his top 3.

You might be thinking, “Who cares what Justin Bieber is listening too?” Well, about 50 million loud teenagers (and the dads who accompany them to his concerts). And his mom. And me.

The Bibes is on a journey of growth and grace. I wrote in Justin the Believer, “We don’t have to buy his albums, or watch his movies, or follow him on Twitter, but at least we can stop hating.

The kid The man needs us now more than ever. He’s obviously looking for redemption. It’s time for overwhelming grace to be our message to him. It’s the same message I want to hear when I fall. It’s the same one you need when you crash and burn.”

Now, imagine the Google searches leading people to find this song. They end up listening to Jonathan and Melissa Helser.

Yes. No Longer Slaves by Jonathan and Melissa Helser.

I’ll go ahead and brag about the fact that they are my friends. Incredible parents, musicians, cooks and leaders of the super creative school, A Place for the Heart. But more than that the message they carry, and the life they live, is worthy of fame.

We sometimes shy away from fame because of fear. However,

“You can’t be a city set on a hill and hidden at the same time. Humility isn’t about avoiding the spotlight – its about being unaffected.”

I’m glad Justin is listening. A whole generation needs this song. We have identified as too many things already: millennials, the future generation, Christians, hipsters, world changers, etc.

It’s time to embrace the ultimate identity: Sons and Daughters of God.

It’s from that place of rest and joy and security where we will get to truly influence the world.

This is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us. 1 John 4

Yes, God has many names, all of them relevant and significant. But ultimately He is Father.

Abba.

Daddy.

To Him we can give no holier name.

This is who Jesus came to reveal. That was his mission on earth. Now, he brings many sons and daughter to glory. And we will not be slaves again.

Time to sing the anthem.

Time to: Listen. Share. Repeat.

Peace.

+ Lyrics: “No Longer Slaves”

You unravel me, with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance, from my enemies
Till all my fears are gone

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mothers womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again, into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

I am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance

We’ve been liberated
From our bondage
We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
All my fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
So I could stand and sing
I am child of God.
